Men and women have different health needs and it is important for businesses to understand and address these needs when developing company policies and programs. Studies have documented that investing in employee health reduces worker absenteeism, improves worker morale, and increases employee job commitment and productivity. It is illegal to discriminate against employees based on their health status, including HIV/AIDS and pregnancy.

Indicator 1

Provide comprehensive health coverage and insurance that are equitable for all employees and address the particular needs of women. Offer health plans that cover prenatal and perinatal care, fertility treatment, and contraception, including emergency contraception, without restrictions on contraception method.

Provide information on employee rights, benefits, and available resources to employees upon notification of pregnancy, adoption, medical situations, or illnesses requiring extended leave. Provide an appropriately private space for breastfeeding mothers.
