Although the increasingly complex composition of corporate activity, with various supplier and subcontractor relationships, challenges the ability of companies to monitor their business activities globally, companies have an obligation to ensure that all elements of their operations, including their products, premises, and services do not contribute to human trafficking. Human trafficking is a federal, state, and international crime, a violation of human rights that involves corruption. Keeping businesses free of human trafficking activities prevents companies from criminal liability, and ensures that their reputation and integrity remain intact. On the other hand, implementing anti-human trafficking policies and practices enable companies to enhance their relationships with local communities, governments, non-governmental organizations, consumers, and other stakeholders by demonstrating the organization's ethical commitment to human rights.

Indicator 1

Conduct risk assessments to measure potential for trafficking in business facilities and business-related operations, and create concrete steps to correct and eliminate risks if they arise. Create alliances with other companies, where appropriate, to exchange information about international standards and industry best practices to combat human trafficking.

Indicator 2

Establish and enforce a policy forbidding human trafficking in all organization operations, including use of migrant and child workers, and all business-related activities, such as travel, education, and organization-sponsored activities. Ensure that private employment agencies hired to recruit workers do not engage in human trafficking.

Introduce and enforce a clause repudiating trafficking for labor or sexual exploitation in relevant supplier and vendor contracts.

Provide guidance materials and training on human trafficking to all staff, including senior management, and communicate the organization's anti-trafficking activities to stakeholders and the public.
